Piece of Red Cloth
- Open your eyes, translated by Yiyan Han (c) 2020-11-21

A popular Chinese rockānāroll by Mr CUI Jian (å“å„) in 1980's and 90's. My initial translation finished on 2015-12-15. The āred clothā in this song is a metaphor, and open to interpretation ā so just let your imagination run free. The subtitle is added by theĀ translator.
On that day you covered my eyes
ānā the sky with a piece of red cloth
Then you asked what I could see
I said I only saw happiness
This made me feel comfortable
ānā let me forget I had nowhere to live
Then you asked where I wished to go
I said Iād rather follow you
I couldn't see you nor the road
ānā my hands were also tied up
You asked what's in my mind
I said Iād follow your command
I could feel you werenāt made of iron
but were as hard ānā brutal as steel
I could feel the blood flew in your veins
'cause your hands were pleasantly warm
This made me feel comfortable
ānā let me forget I had nowhere to live
Then you asked where I wished to go
I said Iād rather follow you
I could feel this land wasn't bleak
though couldn't see it was dried up
I felt thirsty ānā asked for water
but you shoved your mouth on mine
I couldn't walk away nor could cry
'cause my body was already dry
I wanted to be with you forever this way
'cause I most understood your agony
[trumpet]
On that day you covered my eyes
ānā the sky with a piece of red cloth
Then you asked what I could see
I said I saw happiness

To me the red cloth was to require the spiritual eyes to be to see. Have a problem with forcing anything, but interesting poem! my humble opinion.......Jim
Thank you, Jim. Yes, there is "forcing" meaning in the song. Like your idea of "spiritual" though, and a Christian believes God see everything.
Communism Yiyan? That's how I see it, awesome writexĀ I'd love to hear the original! Could we find it on YouTube? best wishes and stay safe my friend. TFOTSĀ
