Pilgrims In Progress

Pilgrims In Progress

We burst thro' the mountains and the view was before us,
spread out with coloured rainbows and green so wondrous;
now, we took this view and put it in our pockets forever,
ties were bound, our lives mapped out, nothing could sever.

In the old story, we slew dragons and fierce warriors,
crossed swamps and transgressed all that was disastrous;
some of those dragons had a familiar face, was it enemies?
didn't we see people we knew or Aphrodite and Hercules.

We brushed them aside because they were of no consequence,
as you should do today, now you have vision of pilgrim's sense;
you're armed, ready for all the nonsense of this modern life,
take your sword, don't say you're bored, use your pearl handled knife.

You may not win, but you have one moment in time, don't mess up,
remember the power, the magic, when you sprinkled your loving cup.
