Can't say as I blame you any there, Greg.
What about Poe? Can you relate to Poe?
Or Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, or perhaps Lewis Carroll?
Oh, wait. They were rhyming poets, weren't they?
Well you see, that's what the Poetry Foundation prefers—rhymed poetry.
Right or wrong, that's just the way it is.
You gotta love those Jabberwocky poems, heh-heh...

Dean I use to only write rhymes but now I believe that rhymes are very elementary. I think it restricts thought. Jim M changed my life years ago and helped me evolve. Â Poe is one of my favorites though
I feel it's just the opposite, Greg.
Rhyming takes lots of skill—knowledge of meter, elision, punctuation and alliteration—to be properly done. It restricts your creativity only if you allow it to.
Anyone can string together a bunch of eloquent words and make them sound good.
Don't get me wrong—there's nothing wrong with free verse, contemporary or otherwise. But no way does it require as much skill than writing rhymed poetry does.
~Dean
I absolutely disagree with you my brother LOL! For me it does not really take any skill to write Rhyme. Writing prose in itself does not take a lot of skill. However creating a canvass with words does. Reaching the heart of the reader takes a lot of talent. Â
