Poker Face

December 17th 2013
A marked moment in my personal history.
The demise of a marriage it was,
mistrust, infidelity all trussed up.
Definitely not a gift of love.

The hand of cards which I’d been dealt,
was not a winning set.
The stakes are high in the game of love,
which I had played with honesty, now I regret.

Everyone else near and dear all played
the game of life with a poker face.
A shock it was to find cheaters, fakers, co-conspirators.
Nothing pure did they hold, they had tainted souls.

Out of my depth, feeling bereft
I sought therapy. Through which I found the love of my life
and now we are husband and wife.
The journey hasn’t been easy, many people lost on the way
but that’s the risk you take
if you choose to live life not wearing a poker face.
