Price of Freedom

Must be grateful.

Price of Freedom

Target locked.
Barrel gun
Pull trigger.
I`m shocked. Cold

Old decrypted
Code. Moss covered.
Stone. Forever in a pose.
Dried. Like a garden rose

Rows on rows
Served, strove.
To protect. To give hope.
To sacrifice life.
Freedom arose.

Morning sun
Not in vain

But it feels the same.
As when it began.

Consider the consequences.
Or more will come.
And lives will be lost.
For to give benefitĀ

To no-one.

It could have been different.
The Fish of the Sea.

Yes, well written in memory of all those who gave their lives for freedom. The Netherlands is, alas, full of war cemetriesn from WWII and it always hurt when I pass one. Each small village in France has a statue with the names of all who fell during WWI and WWII, sometimes 7 names from the same family (brothers and cousins probably) in a village where perhaps a hundred families lived... It darkens the day and I always remember the one (almost) mistake course I took at University: Poetry of the First World War - it was hard to read all that stuff and I still do not like to pass the North of France where the trenches were... Too many dead for the ??? of a few warmongers

How on Earth did I miss your comment John? I have no clue. Sorry mate. That is so very cool my friend! One day I'm going to promise myself to pay tribute over there and visit places like that. Although the Kokoda trail is a bit closer to home. The tragedies of war is atrocious but we shouldn't let them define us as a race. We can still recover and use it as example of when society goes of the wire. Thanks so much for your really kind comment and sorry again for not seeing it! Perhaps I was focused on another write. Smiles and peace to you my friend. Kind regards Max
