Progressively Messed Up

We're born innocent and free
But we becomeĀ  (like Adam and Eve)
Ashamed of our nakedness
And increasingly shy.

And then as we make mistakes
We are subsequently humiliated
By what we have said and done
Or what we might have stated.

So we live our lives feeling guilt and shame
Replaying old arguments
Again and again.

There's the psychic struggle of what's false
And what's true.
Is it merely one's point of view?

We try to let go of anger
And to remain same.
And struggle always
To let go of pain.

Or, at least, I do.
