Questions for a dead man

When did you know that the time was right?

Did death whisper in your ear

That this was your final hour?

That a window of opportunity had opened

Absolution was on special offer

And I would pay the difference?

What if you had got it wrong?

I saw my grandfather on his death bed three times

What would have happened if your revelation

Had been premature?

Would you even have cared?

Since you didn’t all those years ago

I think of you often

With her

It is hard to imagine

Not painful

But fashions have moved on

The picture is blurred

I try to imagine the occasion

Sometimes I wish you had spilled your guts a little earlier

Now all my questions

Will remain unanswered

That time you got lost in Glasgow

Was it then?

I wonder if she is alive

Or did she follow your lead

And make a death bed confession?

Is there someone out there

Mirroring me

Mourning two deaths?
