Rain

Everything looks cleaner while your gentle embrace lasts;
Wash away my sins and all the mistakes in my past.
Muddle with my vision, so I can't see so clear;
Make short my visibility, so I can only see what's near.
What's close;
What I need to do the most,
On what I need to focus on,
On what I need to carry on.
Paint everything in liquid light;
Make these streets a beautiful sight;
Hide what causes pain and fright;
A soothing song for this long night.
Give me atmosphere so that I know the world feels my pain;
Let me know the sky sees me and sometimes feels the same.
Give me a background to what's going on, a prop for this peculiar event;
Angels, let me feel your tears that somehow seem heaven-sent.
To be, sometimes, is not so easy;
Life hits you hard and lays you low
And you close your eyes in anticipation of the killing blow.
But you never feel it.
Instead you feel the rain.
Wash me of my sorrow;
Cleanse me of my pain;
Let me know the world is on my side
At least for today.
