Rembrandt After Three Hundred Years

Rembrandt After Three Hundred Years

In mid October of nineteen sixty nine, I flew to Chicago for the day;
To visit their very fine museum, that had rare Rembrandt's on display!
It was the Three Hundredth Anniversary, of the year that he had died;
So to mount a major exhibition, in his honor was decried!

Private collectors and major institutions, loaned many of his greatest works;
The finest assemblage ever put together, with his rarest etchings as a perk!
When I viewed it I was breathless, for it was hung chronologically;
As I witnessed his whole life’s oeuvre, from seventeen to near seventy!

My favorite was a small self portrait, he did when just a teen;
A dashing lad with golden hair, it’s beauty I so gleaned!
My second was “Christ at the Temple”, throwing the Moneylenders out;
Of course, there were so many masterpieces, the greatest known no doubt!

When I returned to Cincinnati, I wanted about him to learn much more;
So I bought the novel “Rembrandt”, by Gladys Schmitt at our bookstore!
His life was so amazing, filled with fame and tragedy;
I ingested every chapter, of her remarkable Biography!

I strongly recommend it, to anyone who loves his art;
The greatest artist in history, who gave my career its’ initial start!
For the day that I met Rembrandt, he opened up my mind;
To the genius of an artist, each work the only one of it’s kind!

The greatest artist
The brushstrokes of a genius
Rembrandt, It’s Master

My Dear Friend Jai,

This is the most beautiful comment you have ever sent me, for it is replete with your purest passion. This write for me is very easy to create because, number one, I have been dealing in art for almost a half a century, and have seen many great masterpieces in major museums.  Secondly, Art is in my soul, which makes it very easy to be passionate about it.  Thank you for your phenomenal words.

Peace and Love,

Hi Larry,  I am deeply honored to read this write ## Having lived in the Netherlands for 32 years,  I find Rembrandt,  the best who lived during the Golden age.  I love " The Night Watch "   his best collection,  oil in canvas at the Rijkmuseum in Amsterdam..  I don't like abstract painting that much ##My elder brother is a painter,  Rembrandt's works inspire him very much. He displayed his talent at the age of 6.
I wish you could come to Holland and visit the Rijkmuseum ## that would be amazing.

love and Peace

My Dear Leah,

I am very familiar with Rembrandt's masterpiece, it's full title being "The Night Watch of Sir Banning Cocq", and that it hangs in the Rijkmuseum.  Are you familiar with the tremendous controversy that surrounded this painting, when Rembrandt inserted his dearly beloved wife, Saskia, who had passed away, into it's focal point?  I know that the Rijkmusuem houses many of his great works, but I have seen a lot of others in many major museums I have visited.  Of course, it would be so nice to come to Holland and be able to meet you in person, and then you could give me a personal guided tour of your beautiful museum.

Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
