Remember Her

Remember Her

 I remember my Gran
Through an old photograph,
A crimplene dress
And her cheeky laugh
 -
I remember her garden
It was so perfect then,
How I wish I could watch her
Prune roses again
 -
I remember her hands
Etched by time,
Crafted by hard work
Yet softly held mine
 -
I remember her sayings
Her wisdom came through,
“There’s always someone-
Worse off than you”
 -
I remember her strength
Six children she’d known,
She tells of her son
Who never came home
 -
I remember the last time
I saw her sweet face,
Asleep in a hospital
Still full of grace
 -
She remembers us now
The smiles, not the tears
And the part we have played
In her ninety-six years
 -
But remember when times
Seem hard to get through,
She still keeps an eye
On me, and on you.

Hi Tony, thank you very much for your kind words - Annie was the best person
I ever knew, and even though this is meant for family - I tried to make it as inclusive as possible for "Grannie memories" everywhere.

Cheers mate.

John

Dear John,

I only had one grandmother, my father's Mother.  My other grandma died three years before I was born.  I have such treasured memories of my "Bubbie", the Yiddish word for grandmother.  I can still see her sitting in the Philadelphia living room, in her favorite easy chair, trying to understand why her dear grandson was listening to this new genre of music called rock and roll.  She, like yours, had six children, and my father was her favorite.  We lost him way too early at 61 years, and, soon thereafter, my Bubbie died of a broken heart.
Thank you for your beautiful rendition of a grandson's love for a beloved grandmother.

Love,
Larry xxx
