The Ride

I arise and stumble out of bed.
As I make my way to the bathroom.
My eyes are blood shot and red.
A shower and shave my morning groom.
Today is Saturday the last work day.
It's also my pay week.
Tonight I'm gonna play.
Single. Fun times I seek.
Don't get me wrong.
I would love to settle down.
Just no love that strong.
In this small town.
Happens with every relationship.
To much time on the job.
Less time together it starts to slip.
A career your home life it will rob.
With four engagements in my past.
And six different kids I consider mine.
At age of thirty-nine I've had a blast.
My retirement coming a replacement they must assign.
With no thoughts of going slow.
I purchase my first bike.
And ride under the full moons glow.
With a mother an tyke.
With years on the road.
And miles from the next town.
We unpack and settle the load.
Cuddled in blankets nothing around.
Strangers at the start.
Just looking for adventure.
Now never to part.
As we set in our indenture.
Twelve years have gone.
Since the first moon light.
Not a single nite alone.
As we embellished every sight.
Up ahead we see the town we left.
A nudge on her shoulder.
We turn at the roads cleft.
We are not slowing only older.
Our hair now grey and white.
Strangers to their home town.
Get married that night.
And settle down.
