Saint Patrick’s Day Blues

Today we honor all the Irish folk, we wear colors green in hue;
But our hearts will be covered in another, for they will both be draped in blue!
March seventeenth we would celebrate, Saint Patrick’s Day every year;
But how can we be happy now, with our two Soulmates no longer here!

Their groomer used to bathe them white, placed bandanas round their necks;
Nice green ones for Saint Patrick’s Day, they’d strut their stuff and muscles flex!
They knew that they were pretty boys, they’d show off to all their pals;
Especially all the female ones, they both had favorite gals!

They’d sniff the air as corned beef cooked, we’d put a little in their food;
After scarfing it, they’d lick their lips, and say “That was really good”!
But today their bowls both lay empty, unused beside their Shrine;
So instead of Irish fanfare, now we’ll be ingesting tears and brine!

                         Irish eyes now are smiling
                           But ours will e’er weep
