SALMAN RUSHDIE ATTACK

I try to remain impartial in the poems that I write
This will be difficult to do after the horror of last night 
An author named Salman took to an American stage 
Controversial he maybe with what he writes on a page 

Salman is considered a defender of free speech 
Very difficult to do and so extremely hard to teach
Whether you respect him or loathe him it's up to you
Didn't deserve to be stabbed randomly out of the blue 

The leaders of Iran praised this most horrific attack
Salman they say lost an eye he will never get back 
I won't pass an opinion and duly sit on the fence 
Stabbing though is cruel and to me makes no sense
