Poem -

Sebastian

Kindred spirits in the bottle found
Drunk on earthly beauty proud,
Wandering through rain soaked streets,
A soul alone in peril beneath.
Agnostic or atheist try as I might
Not to weep for the heart of Sebastian Flyte.

Family, duty, misplaced loyalty aside
Crucifixions are always allowed,
Sometimes the devil is not what he seems
Dangling pleasures, he lurks in our dreams.
Devils or angels, try as I might
Not to weep for the heart of Sebastian Flyte.

And on drawing a veil, hoping for change
Genuflection does not make a sound.
Pick him apart seam after seam,
Walks in the arbour, champagne fuelled screams.
Lurking there always, just out of sight
As I weep for the heart of Sebastian Flyte.

(for Evelyn Waugh)
