Second Place

And god damned the runner

to a life of second place;

and the beauty queen

to a life of plain thoughts;

and the artist

damnable in even the afterlife

to obscurity.

And to all others

these were okay.

Second place was good and sound;

who needed brilliance when beauty was so

profound;

understanding was nothing when your heart was

soaked in so much paint and deep meaning

that it drowned.

But

it weighted them down

until streaks appeared

across their faces-

down their arms.

Thoughts are like demons-

if only ?

if only I was first

if only I was like her

or him

or them

or nothing.

If only I was nothing

mythical like atlas

without the weight

on my already frail shoulders.

They say I have flown-

I think I have fallen.

down into the ocean to drown

by medals of lesser metals-

and by the hilt of the blade of irony.

Sometimes when we come in second, (although many, considers it a loss) in our many endeavors approached upon, we truly are the winners in the game of life....You have elegance in all you write and each write is one with win written all over it...Gina it appears your talents, has no limitations attached to any of your writes and your heart must be as big as all outdoors for you to contain, such artistic literary writes, you have allowed your readers to view, from the heart of the poetess,(Gina Marie)...There is no stopping you and your talent, so let not your pen, be allowed, to lay down and rest, when your heart has so much more it wants to convey......

Great write,

Jim
