Secret Dreams

12 o' clock

"Happy New Year," screams everyone around me

Laughing, as they lie about resolutions to be

better people, better friends, better off financially

its funny the things you say when think nobodies listening

"I'm gonna get closer to God"

"This is my year" they claim

The same lines spoken every year, just put on replay

No excuses

I'm focused

If you ain't with me stay gone

I'm cutting people off, deleting numbers from my phone

Yea right

What I've realized is that resolutions have become a trend

Everybody's goal is the same

Whether it be fame or money to spend

But just like any other fad next season it's gonna end

So you're dreamless, jobless, hopeless, til the year rolls around again

Not me

I won't be boasting my goals and dreams

Telling the world about my success

Only for the hater's sake it seems

That when people pretend to like you the best

Cause when everybody sees you rising

the world will try to break you down

When jealousy is contagious

and aspiration rarely found

Yea I'll keep my dreams to myself

I'll keep living my life

but I promise to

Take the year one day at a time

Figure things out when its right

I'll rise to occasions, put my best foot forward

Do what I can to make a difference in the world

Maybe I'll recycle, Most times I'll eat right

I'll workout, and try not to let life pass me by

Each day I'll learn something new and with time I'll grow wiser

One day I might overcome my fear of spiders

Who knows what may happen

Life's much too uncertain

To promise things not guaranteed taking on such a burden

but silent I'll be 

Gradually climbing success' stairs

So when my goals have been reached

You'll just see me when I'm there
