Seems Like Yesterday

Seems like yesterday,
Places.  Faces.  Scenarios,
But these pass leaving
Only memories for me.
(I could happily return
At any moment).

Do others not care,
Or are they simply
More willing to
Embrace the future

Leaving the past behind?
Often it seems to me
That something does last-
Not just in photographs

And memories-
There is, I think,
An umdercurrant
Binding people

And when someone
Goes altogether
These now older faces
Reunite to pay respects
At funerals and wakes.
