Selling Subs for the Team

Selling Subs for the Team

I go to the Stop-n-Shop Store
to pick up a few items after work.

In front of the store are some
soccer players from
the local high school
selling tickets for a car wash
to raise money for their team.

I think back to when I played
little league football
with the Alton Park Comets
football team,
selling raffle tickets,
hoagies and brooms to
raise money for night lights
for our practices in the evenings.

I hated going door to door,
selling "stuff,"
but it was part and parcel
if you wanted to be part
of the team.

In the store I buy a packet
of Double Chocolate
Ice Cream Bars,
three for $4.50.

I drop a dollar into the
soccer team container
and give an ice cream bar
to the two kids,
and their eyes light up
with joy as I contribute
to helping their fund raising
by making it a bit sweeter.
I say,  "I hope you
enjoy my  contribution
to your cause."

The boys nod in agreement.
