sentimental melody

the sound of your key
when turning the latch of the door
your work’s bag being dropped on the floor
your steps going up the stairs
your voice saying
- hello, my love, I'm here-
spinning slowly
spinning I in your arms
you in my arms
spinning with your lips kissing my lips and
my lips returning the favour
spinning almost dancing
your body and my body together
there is a melody
sailing over my skin
passing for your hands
between your neck and my words
between your voice and my left ear
between your eyes and the fur of my beard
between the scent of your hair and my palms
between your cheek and my thoughts
between your heart beating and
the open buttons of my shirt
that can barely contain my heart
inside my chest
for the joy of seeing you arriving and
cuddle me and kiss me
like it was the first time
like it was the end of the world
like if we can't let go ever
a sentimental melody
which starts with your key
turning inside the latch of the door
a melody that ends
with my cat’s whispers
sleeping by your side and
you saying -good night, my love-
(yes, because
even in the most distant dream
I hear your voice
which is another melody
another poem)

Beautiful! The scene plays out in your head as you read. The sound of a key in the door brings forth a wealth of emotions. I had not thought about it before but your poem has made me think. Well done for thinking of an everyday, routine thing that is much, so much more and writing so vividly about it x
Thank you. I'm glad you like it.
