Sentinel

Sentinel

Masonry sentinel enduring,
Ashen ore cast alluring.
Archaic rock forged long ago,
Β Enlighten tales one must know.

Erudite depths in vacant eyes,
Vigilant towards utopic skies
Locked in inertia, wary drone,
Lofty perched effigy throne.

Mona-Lisa smile on steely lips,
Frigid grains graze fingertips.
Stone pinions convivial extend,
Envisage rapture to descend.

Rugged in graveyard chill,
Warden of Saint Peter's hill.
Stoic concrete seraphim,
Echoes intone forsaken hymn.

Tombs dot hallowed ground,
Austere taciturn abound.
Wept tears of stone,
Relics decry flesh and bone.

Magistrate of the dead,
Oblivious to remnants bled.
Bereft kinsmen lament,
Kith unrepentant lives spent.
