Poem -

September

slowly, gently
out from beneath the sway
of genteel avenue trees
I went looking for you September
you lusty month of weathered changes

out past the fallen gate
over stubbled field ready
for plough, hake and harrow
where a wondering heart found root
and you too were willing

was it that first year
of freedom's flame bursting forth
implanted you soul deep in my passion
or the maturing years of return
ever drawn to your sweet disharmony

slowly gently
there you are my sweet September
in all the beauty there ever was to behold
all the lustful moment n'er betold
sweet sweet September sweetheart of old
