Setting Sail (*A L'Arora)

***

In the harbour of her heavy heart,
She sat unready to set sail,
For the hail of her unhappiness
Had battered her unworthy boat;
Could she float in stormy weather?
She stayed ashore, unable to go,

For fear had been her forecast,
For a voyage of weep and woe.

She had wondered at the waters
That could drown her in her dreams,
And in streams of tears and stars that shone
Upon the face of the world and herself,
As night's wealth of glittering eyes,
Traced in the sky, mythologies of old,

Where the tides told of legends,
Of pirates and of gold.

Of brash sea breezes blowing her away
For a thousand miles or more,
Far from shore and being sure of her course,
Where the Kraken waited to curl her in coils
And the spoils of confusion were kept,Β
And emotional currents ran deep, Β Β

To pull her below into oceans of love,
Down where the mermaids all sleep.

But the rainbows of beauty now caught her
And her sorrows they turned into sand,
And the land that had held her now told her
Her anchor had melted in moonlight
And sunlight was harnessed by beauty
So into the sunrise she must sail,

To sing out the song of her loving,
No matter what weather or whale!
