Shades of Gray

A world just stopped color today,
 Watched it turn shades of gray.
 A world void of serenity redefined,
 fragmented char left behind.

A new name to a list, here than gone,
 The world still turns, time marches on.
 My heart torn loose from tissue, sinew,
 Return to sender, melancholy grew.

Gore trickles from callous fingertips,
 blood chilling, like ticks on cruel lips.
 You squelched my loving heart blue,
 To see if I'd fall apart, you know it's true.

A soul lay dormant, conscience sleeps,
 Killing you softly for each tear that weeps.
 Deliquescent emotions of molten glass,
 Feelings ablaze ignited by the past.

So intent on your cruel games,
 Not caring how you fan the flames.
 Some day soon there'll be someone,
 who'll break you just for the fun.

Don't come back! I told you so,
I'll laugh, 'cause you're broken though
 Holding my head high and say,
 You'll grow use to shades of gray.
