Shadow of Doubt
Doubt lurks behind me,
casting a shadow on my sun.
In looking outside for comfort,
I see rain when there IS none.
As time goes on, the shadow grows
its burden becomes even greaterโฆ
more experiences fuel my belief โ
trust will come much later.
When giving the benefit of the doubt
Iโm reminded of past events;
theyโre etched within my memory,
a sort of warped defense.
And when I feel at ease with someone,
doubt peeks over my shoulder,
chasing away the happy thoughtsโฆ
then the air becomes much colder.
If anD when a chance is taken
the outcome is unkOwn;
the possibility of pain is obvioUs,
But life is empty alone.
I hope doubT is caught offguard one day
by someone who believes in me;
heโll smother the shadow that haunts my life
so I can finally walk away free.
