Poem -

The Shadows Amongst Us

Begin oh night long with despair
shadows cast amongst us there
Who by day waste away
at evening to demons pray
Walking around these prison cells
bringing to each their personal hells

Where does one even begin
when surrounded by sin
No pastor, no priest, no chaplains near
as these repulsive spirits draw ever near
Smiling from the corners bathed in black
waiting, savoring the moment to attack

Staring at me as I lay upon this bed
fearing that it's all just in my head
Perhaps they are indeed there in fact
and these cries of torment are no act
Never will I or others truly sleep
with eyes too tired to even weep
