Shadows of Lir

Shadows of Lir

Hear us oh Lord our song of beauty,
a beauty of a land bequeathed with pain,
a land that yearns for a brighter tomorrow,
oh hear us, the shadows of Lir.

Hear us oh Lord our song of sorrow,
a sorrow that has scattered us across the earth,
the earth we have nurtured in song and story,
oh hear us, the shadows of Lir.

Hear us oh Lord, our song of struggle,
a struggle with hunger and colonial brute,
a brute now gone brave sons of Eire,
oh hear us, the shadows of Lir.

Hear us oh Lord, our song of betrayal,
betrayed by the corrupt and morally bereft,
a corruption that leaves all life in the gutter,
oh hear us, the shadows of Lir.
