SHE JUST CAN'T SEE YOU

I woke up early Saturday morning
Bright, beautiful day
Boy I was famished
Wow…blood sugar 107
I was in diabetic heaven

I think I will try the restaurant called The Grille
They open at 6 AM
So I pulled in the lot
I am going to feast this morning I thought

The greeter walked right past me
So I decided to take the booth by the window
Sat down raised my hand
But the four waitresses at the counter just stared at me
I thought, “What a bunch of bimbos I see!”

I looked at the menu
2 eggs, 2 hash browns, 2 sausages, Black Coffee
Four slices of toasted rye
If this tastes good I will even order a slice of cherry pie

A white haired old man and a woman with a cane
Sat in the booth next to me
She caressed his face so carefully
He told her eat all you want
You will never have to get thinner
We might even come back for dinner
That is what true love is all about
Growing old together and battling gout

The red haired waitress took the couples order
Completely ignoring me
Like I had some mental disorder

I sat there alone and started to cry
I guess today no cherry pie

I wanted to yell at the waitresses
But instead I got up and stormed out
Blood pressure rising, my companion hypertension
Be careful don’t blackout just pout

I drove back angry to my drywall box
There was an Ambulance parked in my handicap spot
I thought glad it’s not me
Go home and continue life’s rot

I stepped inside and to my surprise
There were four firemen on the floor
I have never seen these men before
I asked myself,  “What are they doing here?”
I blinked my eyes hoping they would disappear

I looked over their shoulder
And saw a man’s body on my living room rug
It was crawling with flies and a big black bug

His skin was black
His body was bloated
Writing in his report the lead fireman noted

Suddenly I realized it was me on the floor
Blood stains from my eyes, nose and ears
Death finally came I have realized my worst fear

I guess I have run out of time
No reason to breakfast dine
An end to my life long whine

So the next time your waitress ignores you
She is not being a shrew
She just can’t see you

Wow I enjoyed how the creepiness built up. I thought maybe you were going to end up in a coma but nope it went further than that. A very spooky read indeed
A good narrative
Gwen :)

Hi Gwen,
Thanks for the comment. What was creepy is how the four waitresses looked at me sitting in the booth just staring at me. I thought I was dead. Finally a waitress did take my order. Food is excellent at this restaurant.
