Poem -

she remembers

to Aunty Zoila, who makes old age appealing

she remembers

I smile and
listen carefully
to everything she says
every story
word by word
over and over again
as many times
as she may repeat them

she seems to remember
much better
what my mind
has chosen to forget and
I think I prefer it that way
as she remembers it all

as if crying
had always been
a bittersweet interlude and
any suffering
small obstacles
to achieve
greater happiness
as if we have always lived
a wonderful life

I like that
it comforts me
