Shut the sound off

Shut the door, don't want to hear outside, pause the telly...you nelly
All the sound needs to go, where's the mute button...FOUND IT
Still can hear things, the fridge vibration doesn't bother me though
Silence is what I need, stillness, calm, need to think
Think about nowt...nought, nil, nada, nothing, zero, zilch and zip
Empty my mind, clear the congestion, find sanctuary
It's working...ITS WORKING... I'm calming, I feel calm
TV been paused for over two hours, why not turn it off
If it's off, it's not there, if it's not there, why should I care
If it's paused, I'm in control, I stopped the sound
I stopped the sound, to gain some ground, to find the time to clear my mind,Â
Shut the world down, ease my frown, stop feeling down
Hit the stop, before I flop, silence the crowd, lift this shroud
Stop the abuse, find my juice, find my soul, achieve my goal
IÂ took a week off, to find...to win and I'm almost there...just four days in
Oh and get a haircut...I need a haircut

If you’re just starting out as a writer, you could do worse than strip your television’s electric plug-wire, wrap a spike around it, and then stick it back into the wall. See what blows, and how far. Just an idea.
― Stephen King
Given the context of your poem I felt this quote was rather appropriate, David. Hopefully you will too.
Good contemporary free-style poem.
