Siegfried in the Forest

As wind-song whispers secrets through the leaves
And Odinβs ravens counter one another
A fledgling killer tends what he believes
Dismissing all ~ he calls to mind his mother.
Disconsolate at moments (memories) lost
(For memories canβt be forged of empty air)
Unthinkingly, he thinks her heart unjust
Mistaking lack of will for lack of care.
But such a lack of will cannot console
Such wilful strength emboldening the boy
Yet once re-forged, a gifted sword will hold
the memory of his fatherβs strength through joy.
So laughing now, he goes to meet his fate
Within that darkened cave where Fafnir waits.

Wow JASON!!..... what a compelling write this is...... the inner turmoil and the self talk of a youngΒ man as he gathers the courage to face his fear...... to enter the cave to face Fafnir!?.....whom I believe was a dragon in Norse (Icelandic) mythology (if memory serves) ...... this is beautifully crafted brother poet......I LOVE your poetic style..... and the masterful use of the English language you employ......ALL STARS!!.....a pleasure my friend!!......LOVE and ROCKETS!!......T xo ?ββ΄β³
Thanks Tony...I very much appreciate it.
You're right about the Norse mythology, of course. The Icelandic sagas are unique in world literature/mythology in that, from the very beginning, they were centred around real people and had active female characters at their very heart; I think some of the earliest were even written by female poets (?).
The Vikings used those early tales and the act of retelling them over and over to create and maintain a coherent and cohesive culture.
They did what we all do all the time; tell ourselves and each other stories to remind us who and what we are...and to bind us closer together in the telling.
Again, thank you my friend.
Be well.

Hi darling, this is absolutely stunning, you know how much I love it! You are so gifted in that you can take any form of art be it literature/music/art and tell the tale in such and original and compelling way. I love the hidden underlying subilties that reference your own take and own life on your subject matter.Β
Β Brilliantly written and a great take on Icelandic mythology.

Thanks darling.
Of course, you have the slight advantage of 1) having already read the entire sequence and 2) knowing me better than anyone else in the world!!
Your insight is incisive, nonetheless.
I love you too.
