Silence
The friend and enemy
The silence
It's so loud
I can’t
I can’t
I can’t do it
I can’t shut it out
It’s spiraling
From texas to arizona back to michigan
The noise silence reignsÂ
Travels like the wind
Until it’s not
Until the silence is wanted
When the streets are flooded in murmuring and screams and laughs
When the car engines scream their cry of exhaustion
I smell it.
Gas
Coffee
The latest Victoria secret perfume
Maybe I should grab that for my mother?
No.
Silence.Â
I need to think
Should I rest my money at the signs of the homeless?
Should I quench my thirst at the nearest gas station?
Should I go home and think?
In the silence?
Where a decision can make sense?
Where impulse doesn’t roam?
Where my head is the loudest.
Louder than the streets filled with chattering and screaming and coughing.
Filled with feet that scatter on every square that you count on the sidewalk.
One
Two
Three
Where’s the fourth one?
No.
Where’s the fourth one?
Where did it go?
Where’s the fourth one?
Does it end right here?
Did I miscount?
No.
Silence.
The friend and enemy.
