Silent boy

Silent boy

There once was a young boy with a contagious smile,
There was a light so bright he didn’t even care to stare,
He thought that the light would always be there,
So he never opened up his side to the light  that was so bright,
Before he could blink the light was starting to dim,
His smile quickly began to turn to a grin,
That was only on the outside... on the inside he was walking on thin ice,
His heart shrank nearly twice its size,
If it wasn’t for his faith in God he would not be alive,
Then one day he tried to turn the light back on,
He knew what he needed to do... he asked her to prom,
His heart and mind were at a constant clash,
Finally when the war was over and the smoke cleared his heart was standing,
She said yes... she said yes he thought I’m complete there is nothing left,
The light that was so bright I finally got to hold so tight even if it was just for one night,
I found that the light that was so bright was so close I could grasp it in my hand,
I had been floating for years and now I was starting to see land,
Before I could even blink the same light that had me on the brink,
Was starting to fade away again,
Not again please no... I never got to tell you,
But it was too late the light was gone again,
He could now taste the bitter dark old friend,
He’s been trying to light a match ever since
But it’s hard to do when he can’t see
Always trapped in his mind
Thinking about how much happier he could be.
