Silhouetted Hero

Silhouetted Hero

A winding road of love and drugs; anger, sex and lust
A man will do not what he wants, a man does what he must;
Provide a home that's safe and sound, for those who hate him so,
And work until his heart gives out, for those who'll never know.
A man is but a safety net while others jump and fly
Whom no one seems to notice but you'll never see him cry;
A man is but a nothingness; a resource to be mined
For money and whatever else - he's rarely on their mind.
A man performs what no one sees, his strength's beyond compare,
He'll lift a dozen cars or more, despite his thinning hair;
And still he's not a pretty thing; there's nothing there to see,
A man is like a tiny fish, surrounded by the sea,
Until that day the oceans blue goes racing from the shore
And towers up and crashes down; a vengeance with a roar.
On that day are heroes called - they've waited all their life,
An ever silent vigil kept - they've pandered to their wife.
Alas, the beauty sleeps at night, so safely in her bed,
'Cause men with iron fists stand there and watch for lurking dread;
They'll stare right at the sun until the sun backs down and blinks,
They'll stand there til their heart goes cold, but no one buys their drinks,
A man will do not what he wants, a man does what he must
His blood is red but laced with steel; that steel will never rust,
Nor bow or break; he'll never fall; a man will take a stand,
What only men can understand; defender of his land.

Michael, Jason asked me to read this as he thought it was by far the best poem that he had read on here for some time.  I have read it and I too agree this is a wonderfully written poem, pure quality.  The content is amazing, so full of wisdom and knowledge that I think all men could relate to and it is conveyed with some beautifully constructed lines.  Michael, this for me is without question poem of the Month thus far, and I would be hard pushed to read anything that would sway my opinion.  A huge 5*s and nomination from me too:)

Awesome write! Truly wowed with this amazing piece.
You capture the definition of true heroes, and the line about staring down the sun until it blinks awesome. Love the ending as well which really brought it together. A favorite allstars.
