Sinking

Sinking

The ocean’s dark hands grasp me

I can’t see light, only sinking.

The rock beneath shatters and falls, and I fall above it.

My eyes burn, the salt is death.

The light fades, and I cannot see the surface.

I scream, but no words come.

The water absorbs my words, and I have wasted my last breath.

I try to swim up, but it seems down is the only direction.

Is there life at the bottom of the sea?

Surely there is not, for I am slowly fading,

Fading from the life I knew, the life I had.

But there is no life any more.

Has my life reached an abrupt stop?

Yes. I believe it has.

The ocean is gone.

I see nothing, only sinking.
