Poem -

Siren

The fall was quick
leaves crushed under hands
quickly rebound perfectly
as though he never was
he moved quietly

through trees he ran
the lights dim and glow
flitting from trunk to trunk
drinking the fear
he exuded silently

he didn't look back
to look back was to fall again
Under the spell
of dew quenched lips
pouted seductively

the sirens call echoes
in his mind, ricocheting
until no other thoughts permitted
he stops and thinks
and rubs his temple nervously

what more could be done
to run forward, forever ?
his heart pounded
his mind still hounded
he turns mindlessly

and his body sinks into the earth
on his knees he weeps
his tears receive no sympathy
the sirens eyes find him
and take him without mercy.

Chilling...and extremely well written. With a growing sense of urgency and threat, you build to that quietly devastating climax.

You have a very sharp ear for the subtleties of prosody.

Beautiful work.
