SISTER SWEET
I played with you
In the apple times
Toffee fingered
As the windbells chimed
And autumn blew
Discarded leaves
And we, transformed
To coloured trees
Through the winters long
With gleaming snow
To slip and slide
On cold blue toes
Snowmen up
And snowmen down
The frost man's bite
On the world around
And Christmas time
Pink faced, enthralled
Eyes stretched wide
For Santa's haul
Mischievous faces
Gummy smiles
All bounty found
As the sun did rise
Then on to summers
Dipped in gold
Through the faerie fields
Of night stories told
Eyes sharp and bright
Souls full of life
No worries yet
No cares or strife
So we ran and ran
Through the coloured days
Cared not as childhood
Sneaked away
Ran ever bound
To days of black
Where devils rode
Unwitting backs
I remember now
Oh sister sweet
Who lies in dust
Beneath my feet
How life did lie
And rob and cheat
Made promises
It could not keep
For I cannot stop
And I cannot start
For your weight is heavy
In my laden heart.
