Sleep Walking

Sleep Walking

(The video is along the lines of the political climes right now, but I chose it because it fits... and I love Disturbed lol)

Why can we not see what is around us?

Blinded into a somnolent trance where white noise mantles our senses into lethargy that will not weaken, we forge ahead on lies and misconceptions of what is or should be.

Closed off and redirected, we miss the man sitting on the side of the street who hasn’t had a thing to eat. His face is sallow from malnutrition, his hair is un-kept and grey and his eyes hold emptiness.

He is one of the invisible ones… who are so frequent now in our materialistic society that we all just walk on by.

A child sits alone, rejected, abandoned by her drug addicted mother. She goes to school and then returns each day to the foster home that abuses her… She is scattered, desponded, and hides her face. She believes no one wants her and she doesn’t know love.

She is one of the ignored; the one passed over… while we look to other countries to adopt a child that we can raise without baggage, or scars.

She is an elderly woman who has lost all whom she loves. She finds her comfort and her purpose in the church she has attended for twenty years. This Sunday she brings in her famous bunt cake for social hour after the service, but knows it will only be a matter of time. The church is closing you see… and she has no idea what she is going to do when it does.

She is a victim of our forgetfulness. We are so busy running around, being so active that we never slow down. We forget about those we owe our lives to, those who got us this far, and those we will eventually become.

I wonder, in my silique… is it too late? Are we as a species ever going to change? Will I be one of the forgotten, ignored, or invisible?

Will YOU???

I hope we can change, though it may take longer than my lifetime, but awareness is key… walking with our eyes looking out and not at our phones or tablets. Seeing the problems in our community and putting out a helping hand or speaking out when we see injustice.  Visiting friends and loved ones who need companionship, and remembering those who fought for our freedoms and liberties.

I am trying to change, I hope you will too.

Hi Rebecca  So sad that we live in such a world as you have written about
In my opinion it comes down to compassion for our fellow man
to open our eyes and notice everything what goes on around us, i`d like to think
i am one of those people with compassion that cares, as i see you are too
Great awareness write
 Best wishes Debs

Good morning Deb. Thank you for stopping by. I usually don't write pieces like this because I feel like I am passing judgment, or pushing my belief onto others, but this world is starting to scare me, and as artists, I believe we have the power to shape and influence the world.

I'm not perfect. Just like everyone I struggle with looking up every day. Staring at suffering is hard to do and makes me feel terrible, but it is real and it is now... and we all can do little things to change it.

Hugs and Blessings dear friend.

Nice one Rebecca, there is a lot of untruths to discover or, more uncover. It takes a bit of exploration, but it is there to find, hope your piece helps others to look.

Cheers Bydonz

Hey there sunshine. Thank you for stopping by.

This write came about after sitting around the dinner table last night where we all started talking about the recent presidential debate. Of course this led to other topics about who we are and what we all think is right. I think we all have to make the choice individually, to decide how we want our world to be.

Hugs and Blessings dear friend, I hope your day is full of warmth and sunshine.

Hi Rebecca...this is very challenging...you obviously are a very caring person. I try in my little way to reach out to people like that as much as I can. I hope to do more with time. Nice write dear friend.

Rose... :) I know what you mean. Seeing these kinds of things tears me up. It is impossible to think about it all the time. If we did we would probably go into a melancholy type of shock and feel frozen from the weight of it. Yet this is in my community and my family, my friends.

For me, writing like this is scary because I want to make everyone happy... but life isn't always happy. I hope this didn't come across as a judgement. Your word, challenge, is what I was hoping for.

Your compassion is quite visible and strong hon. I'm honored to know you and count myself lucky to be in this place at this time. Thank you so much for being you.

Hug and love... Rebecca
