Sliding Stones

Sliding Stones

The sliding stones mark the way,
As monoliths each one; standing
Grey as the rain filled sky and
Showing that where we end is where
They begun.
The sliding stones, they move each day
Independent of each other, bearing no
Relation to their sister or their brother
But rather reacting as events are imposed
Upon them. Much aware, as we are,
That in time they too will be forgotten.
The sliding stones, observe each one, note
Its metre and its rhyme. See each for
What it elects to show to us, at points removed
At points aligned.
The sliding stones obscure the sun, see them
Cast their shadow, how they will prove we come undone,
Expose our view as narrow.
