Land of the dead

So far so down

Land of the dead

i got lost in the land of the dead
skeletons shaking bones round my head
and sweet blue skies have all gone red
so far so down in the land of the dead

i saw old ghosts in the whispering wall
couldn't raise my voice for fear it would fall
and those heavenly spectres ruined the call
so far so down in the heat of it all

and i couldn't even give you a name
but i know what i saw and i saw it the same
and you would break in the trouble, take in the rubble
and put it all behind you as soon as it came

i got lost in the wake of the war
went down in a plane in black '44
and sweet blue skies rain down petrichor
so far so down in the wake of the war

i got lost just trying to get found
buried in the wreckage deep in the ground
they sent their horses and men and 300 hounds
so far so down so far so down

and i couldn't even give you a name
but i know what i saw and i saw it the same
and you would crack under pressure, lose all your measure
and keep it like a secret all the way to the grave
