Soul Keeper

Her life was empty
and she wandered
in dark places.
She began to find
beauty in the broken,
peace in her loneliness.
She fell into herself,
lost for a while.
Until she followed
a dancing shadow.
It led her to a flicker
within her heart
that set her soul on fire.
But she hid it from the world,
for she feared
the bandits and the liars.
She hid it so long
she forgot all about it.
Til one day she looked in a mirror,
the stranger staring back
said "It's cold in here".
As she stared into her eyes,
she seen the remaining embers
and knew she had to change, before she lost herself forever.
So she took off the mask
and embraced her truth.
She faced her fears and felt
herself rise from the ashes below.
Her laughter like music
called out to the shadows.
Slowly they gathered and her warmth lead them to follow.
But in sharing her flame she did not lose it or weaken.
It could not be stolen,
only given.
It was in this moment
she became a Warrior.
Wandering among
the darkest of places,
beckoning to the lost,
opening their cages.

This is inspired...and inspiring.
The imagery is, at turns, despairing and joyous ... and crisply rendered; but the ideas behind them...behind the whole poem are intriguing, subtle and, frankly, brilliant!!
"...to find beauty in the broken" must surely be the rallying cry for all true poets...it certainly seems to be for you.
Welcome.
