Speculum Hostage

Speculum Hostage

When I look in the mirror
Am I seeing myself?
Or a reflection of what I am expected to be.
Beyond this reflective glass.
Stands a tired soul.
Someone who is dying to let go.
Exhaustion wreaks in her eyes.
Baffled by constant comparison.
How hasn't it shattered yet.
From all the screams she projects.
At her narcissistic prison.

Consumed by her wounds
My dearest please learn.
No amount of contour will cover up the words.
Deep beneath the core.
Stationed where your heart once burned.

Putting down the brushes.
Leaning in to kiss.
After finishing up the touches.
On who she refers to as "me".
The speculum hostage.
