Spoilt By Peace

Spoilt By Peace

You don't know what it was like with no bananas,
going to the shelter at midnight in my pyjamas,
to think that someone was trying to kill you,
couldn't speed things up - there was nothing you could do.

From the 'black market,' dad brought the chocolate,
sometimes cocoa, but for nylons mum had to wait;
a V2 rocket dropped next to my dad's factory,
glass dropped between them, no more deaths a mystery.

One day a friend of ours was walking in Leicester Square,
a doodlebug came down, blew her stockings off, legs bare,
another time in Portsmouth, they had to hide under the bed,
bomb came thro' the roof, somehow they survived it was said.

You don't know what it was like for all those years,
so don't moan to me, with all your current fears.
