STEPPING INTO THE LIGHT

MY SENIOR YEARS

STEPPING INTO THE LIGHT

A CLOUDED GLOOM HAD SHADOWED MY LIFE
FOR MOST OF MY ADULT YEARS,
RELATIONSHIPS, RESPONSIBILITIES,
AND SELF CONTROL, WERE FLYING WITHOUT WINGS.

BELIEVING TO BE IN CONTROL OF MY LIFE
I RECKLESSLY DID AS I PLEASED,
BUT SOON THE SCAFFOLDING OF MY WAYS COLLAPSED,
AND THE CATASTROPHE CREATED,
WOULD LINGER FOR YEARS.

SECRED RELATIONSHIPS, BORN FROM MY LIONS,
SLOWLY DRIFTED FAR APART,
AND THE ONE I LOVED, FROM THE DEPTS OF MY SOUL,
WOULD LIKE A VISE, CRUSH MY HEART.

IN MY SENIOR YEARS, MY HEALTH WOULD CHANGE
CAUSING ME TO LIVE WITH EXCRUCIATING PAIN,
AND THE FEAR OF DEATH, THAT LINGERS OVER MY HEAD,
DRIVES ME ALMOST INSANE.

BUT THE DARKNESS THAT OVERSHADOWED
MY DELUSIONAL MIND, WOULD SLOWLY EVAPORATE,
AS I ACCEPT THE REALITY OF MY HUMAN FRAILTIES,
THE EYES OF MY UNDERSTANDING, LIKE THE DAWN OF THE DAY,
BECOMES BRIGHT, AS I STEP INTO THE LIGHT.
