Still of Night

In the still of the night, in the early morning hours,
I could feel the presence of awful and dreadful powers.

In the still of the night, when slumber was so deep,
I heard the footsteps that were careful to creep.

In the still of the night, my heart pounding like thunder
Waiting for this nameless force to finish it's pillage and plunder.

In the still of the night, trembling with terror I lie,
Hearing and feeling his breath, he was so close by!

In the still of the night, my body stopped breathing,
I waited an eternity for this evil to be leaving.

In the still of the night, with fear and fright in tow
I crawled from my safety to face the unknown foe.

In the still of the night, left alert and aware,
Though but a vivid dream, a new nightmare.

In the still of night, I lay down once more.
My eyes fixed firmly to the shadow of the door.
