Stones That Hurt

Rock hard feelings, empty my mind, like stones thrown against glass, shattered, painful, that hurt
Innocent children, old folks that are forgotten, like clouds in the sky, once recognized, once beautiful, then they fade
Fade into society, taken by crime, violent paintings on an alley wall, streets of terror, the mad dog, starving, hangs from his chain
We run from the truth, we only see, what is dictated, over, and over again, until we are brain washed, and hand cuffed
Stones that hurt, the road to a future we can not control, puddles of blood, empty out, revolving tragedy, no longer safe
The child can not play in the dark, the old woman can not walk in the fog, and though the cat will still chase the rat to the sewer
The smell of disgust, the sirens will be called, though it may be to late, another victim, another stone thrown away
A united world, or a fallen cliff, a uniform not respected, a military forgotten, an old man holding a purple heart in his hands
Where do we stand, what do we stand for, is it a promise, a lie, a memory, or will we lay below these stones, no more hurt, no more to die
Sticks and stones, may break my bones, but words will never hurt me, as the story goes, a child's play on the school ground, once upon a time
Just a rhyme, are there no answers, is there still hope, faith in humanity, stones to build from, not to break in shame, it still hurts inside

Stones when thrown do hurt. But bury those stones, and we can build a world on such a firm foundation that it will take centuries to fall.
Like all your works, this one was profound.
Kimmy,
Thanks so much for your reading, and words of encouragement.
Best Wishes
