stormy weather

stormy weather

wild wintry winds woosh wind
slates down-crash
smash to smithereens
on footpath outside house
to whose front wall
by single thread of bracket screw
drainpipe lifelined leans
and gutter languid vertical
brewer’s-droop-dangles down below
dislodged from fascia board
over which rains rush flow gush galore
as heavens heaving vent their spleens
with Thor-almighty roars

Nigel Cresswell...

Lovely phonetic pace and rhyme. Great write Rowland.
I used to know a couple of members of a very old band called Brewers Droop. Mark Knopfler's first band (yeah I recognise the bridge). The drainpipe image really made me smile. Thanks

I know Rowland, in fact if you just read sultans of swing and like me have been around the music scene like, forever, those simple lyrics are poetry. I would love to know what he thought about the re-issue of the Brewers Droop album. The cover art was a Nashville steel guitar against a bluesky background but with a very floppy neck.
