Street Child

-Street Child-Â
Â
Â
Street child, once smiled, when he wasn’t deprived  Â
Street child, once laughed, when he was a schoolchild
Waking up knowing he has nowhere to go
Getting up knowing he has nothing to show                                         Â
Â
The poor boy, he’s just staying for today Â
Nowhere to call home and no one to hold on Â
He comes and goes, but never stays Â
Â
On the street, he lays Â
On the street, he begs Â
On the street, he dreams Â
Â
He dreams of his mother Â
Whose voice seems so far away Â
He dreams of his father Â
Who drinks it away  Â
Â
Â
We take everything for grantedÂ
While this boy is stranded
In the battle, he can't escape
Feeling it will never be okay  Â
Â
Â
People walking past him as if he were a ghost Â
He’s not even approached  Â
Just stared and laughed at  Â
As if he were a fraud Â
Â
Â
Along the streets, he walks Â
His head down, hiding the falling tears Â
Along the streets, he runs Â
From the man who once called him dear   Â
Â
Abandoned child in the dumpster Â
On this cold night, all he did was shudder Â
Night and day all alone Â
Like an outcast with nowhere to belong Â
Â
The poor boy, he’s just staying for today Â
Nowhere to call home and no one to hold on Â
He comes and goes, but never stays Â
Â
Forgotten by the mother Â
Abused by the father Â
Drugs, guilt, and rejection Â
  Â
They left him nowhere to go Â
Nowhere to sleep, nowhere to eat  Â
And sucked his soul so deep under the oceanÂ
All he feels like now is drowningÂ
Â
Looking at the children Â
Whose lives seem so far from his Â
As they hold their parent’s hands Â
They just don’t seem to understand
Â
The poor boy, he’s just staying for today Â
Nowhere to call home and no one to hold on Â
He comes and goes, but never stays Â
Â
All I ask from you is to look around youÂ
Change your views like leaves change colorsÂ
Help stop the falling tearsÂ
And maybe then, and only then, will the poor boy laugh again   Â
