Summer

Rustling leaves,

bare feet padding

Through soft green undergrowth.

The sun is warm,

the breeze whispering

in ears

and tugging playfully

on hair.

Swing sets are in motion:

Higher! Higher!

Toes stretch for the sky!

Life is a blur of

Popsicle juice and tanned skin,

freckles emerging on faces,

forming constellations --

Smatterings of stars

across noses

and cheekbones
