Summer

Summer

It was the end of Labor Day
And the weather was starting to change
And the thought of wearing long sleeve clothes
To me began to sound strange
But there I was in that hotel room
Packing up my suitcase
But I knew I had to say goodbye
To that blue eyed girl with freckles on the face
But looking back I can’t pretend
That I didn’t think those summer nights wouldn’t end
It was me and Summer, my girlfriend
But what I wouldn’t give just to feel Summer again

I then ran out of that hotel room
And into that chilly September night
And there she was sitting on a bench
Underneath that hotel “Vacancy” light
Then I said, “There you are!
Tell me, is there room on that bench for two?”
She just smiled and said to me
“Hey, I was just thinking about you”
But looking back I can’t pretend
That I didn’t think those summer nights wouldn’t end
It was me and Summer, my girlfriend
But what I wouldn’t give just to feel Summer again

For the last time we walked onto the beach
To where the moonlight was kissing the ocean
Then she said I think this is the exact location
Where you asked me to pour suntan lotion
Onto your muscles and as she cried a tear
I kissed her as she whispered “Please don’t go”
But then came the morning and the winter
With her memory covered in ice and snow
But looking back I can’t pretend
That I didn’t think those summer nights wouldn’t end
It was me and Summer, my girlfriend
But what I wouldn’t give just to feel Summer again
What I wouldn’t give just to feel Summer again
What I wouldn’t give just to feel Summer again
Goodbye Summer, until we meet again
