Poem -

Summer Gone

If you shut your eyes,
And held them closed to long,
You wouldn't realize the way time goes by,
Opening them and summers gone.
It's funny how your favorite time of year,
Can go by so fast,
All these plans we put in gear,
And the good times that never last.
The mind gets out of vacation mode,
Another school year to begin,
Heading toward a holiday overload,
Competing in the rat race sitting in the traffic crawling.
I remember when I was young,
It use to mean a lot more,
Playing all day in the summer sun,
Stay up late, sleep in, and barbecues galore.
So grasp what's left,
Even if it isn't much,
Look ahead to the one coming next,
Another summer gone I just don't get enough.
